The Netherlands is not big but it packs a bit over 17.5 million people, quite a lot in a small area. Each dot represents a single ‘wijk’, a statistical division meaning something like 'tract' or 'district'. They’re determined by the municipalities themselves, so they’re pretty arbitrary. Each ‘wijk’ is shown at the latitude of its centroid. Hover your mouse over a dot to show the name of the wijk and its number of inhabitants. A wijk is defined by CBS as: > a part of a municipality, consisting of one or more 'buurten' (neighborhoods).
