--- ## Getting Data from the Census API source: [Census API](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/pseo.html) This section shows some details about the structure of a data request to the Census API. We take information chosen via the dropdowns above (e.g. the college/university ID) to fill out the request. The wildcard character (`*`) can be inserted in most locations but there are limits on how many times it can be used and with what characteristics. For example, using it here (`CIPCODE=*`) asks for all available programs/majors. In some examples further down, it's used to request data for all colleges/universities (`INSTITUTION=*`) when looking at a specific program/major. The individual components to request the relevant PSEO data are as follows:
Root URL: ${renderWhitespace(23)} ${textcolor(`api.census.gov/data/timeseries/pseo/flows?`, 'grey')} Variables: ${renderWhitespace(24)} ${textcolor(`get=${selectedFlowsVariable}`, 'darkgreen')} Geography: ${renderWhitespace(21)} ${textcolor(`for=us:1`, 'grey')} ${renderWhitespace(30)} <-- Grey = boilerplate Institution: ${renderWhitespace(21)} ${textcolor(`INSTITUTION=${selectedInstitution.institution}`, 'blue')} Degree Level: ${renderWhitespace(16)} ${textcolor(`DEGREE_LEVEL=${selectedDegreeLevel.degree_level}`, 'purple')} Industry: ${renderWhitespace(25)} ${textcolor(`INDUSTRY=${selectedSector.industry}`, 'darkred')} Degree Detail Level: ${renderWhitespace(4)} ${textcolor(`CIP_LEVEL=2`, 'darkorange')} Program: ${renderWhitespace(25)} ${textcolor(`CIPCODE=*`, 'darkorange')} ${renderWhitespace(25)} <-- Orange = get all degrees
