The charts below show just how pronounced that effect is by showing the path to victory, or the cumulative lead held after each quarter, for every one of the 1310 wins during the 2016-17 NBA Season as a single blue curve. Warriors' wins are highlighted in orange, and the middle 50 percent for the league as a whole and the Warriors are also shown. You can see that the Warriors outperform the rest of the league in every quarter, but create their largest separation from other winning teams in the 3rd, turning close games into solid victories and solid victories into blowouts.
To see the opposite effect, select the Cleveland Cavaliers from the dropdown and scroll to the lower chart. This chart shows the same 1310 paths to victory, but highlights the teams that beat the Cavs. These teams, like the Warriors, tend to do very well in the 3rd quarter, and Lebron James' teams have [historically](https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200705210DET.html) [struggled](https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200705240DET.html) in that period.
