2c:null 2d:["$","title",null,{"children":"Making SQLite extension gem install'able for Ruby Developers | Alex Garcia | Observable"}] 32:T40c,These gems has a similar strategy to [the Python/wheels approach](https://observablehq.com/@asg017/making-sqlite-extensions-pip-install-able#cell-23), and general goes along like so: 1. SQLite extensions are [built on Github Actions](https://github.com/asg017/sqlite-hello/blob/e1669896437859ac33368171873846b094aac528/.github/workflows/release.yaml#L8-L94), generating loadable files for each supported operating system/CPU architecture 2. Again in Github Actions, the loadable files are [copied into the ruby project and built](https://github.com/asg017/sqlite-hello/blob/main/.github/workflows/release.yaml#L241-L264) 3. The `.gem` files are [pushed to rubygems.org](https://github.com/asg017/sqlite-hello/blob/e1669896437859ac33368171873846b094aac528/.github/workflows/release.yaml#L265-L271) The ability to have platform-specific gems are key here. With those, if you run `gem install sqlite-regex` on a MacOS x86_64 will give you the appropriate MacOS x86_64 extension, or the MacOS aarch64 extension if you run it on a Mac M1. 33:T530,## Coming Soon Python, Node.js, Deno, and Ruby bindings aren't the end! There are many more language bindings I plan to bring to all these extensions. These include: **[Elixir](https://elixir-lang.org/) Bindings**! [`sqlite-vss`](https://github.com/asg017/sqlite-vss) has [experimental support for Elixir](https://github.com/asg017/sqlite-vss/tree/main/bindings/elixir), and [is available on hex.pm](https://hex.pm/packages/sqlite_vss/), and will come to these other extensions shortly. **Rust bindings**! These will allow you to _statically compile_ SQLite extensions into your Rust binaries. `sqlite-vss` also has [experimental support for Rust](https://github.com/asg017/sqlite-vss/tree/main/bindings/rust), and will come to the other extensions soon. **Go bindings**! These will also let you statically compile SQLite extensions into your Go binaries. `sqlite-vss` also has [experimental support for Go](https://github.com/asg017/sqlite-vss/tree/main/bindings/go), and will be available for other extensions soon. That being said, this type of work takes up a significant amount of time to design and implement properly. If you or your company benefit from this work, please consider [becoming a sponsor on Github](https://github.com/sponsors/asg017) or [hire me for part-time work](https://alexgarcia.xyz/work.html)!34:[{"id":"8a28b4e1ce5a002306f74ec84f58a05bd08a8142db968e8872b95e972ee73b583ef8d950f262e91db8c9ba17c248b2eef198fcf570676b105e8281a9dc058c74","href":"https://static.observableusercontent.com/files/8a28b4e1ce5a002306f74ec84f58a05bd08a8142db968e8872b95e972ee73b583ef8d950f262e91db8c9ba17c248b2eef198fcf570676b105e8281a9dc058c74","name":"3.png","type":"image/png","lastModified":1685047741853.998,"size":4215},{"id":"5765720232b3edddeeed87df61f7087d7b8eda1e420ff4d1b2f28b0efefa4b11ad2c8a572f44cad6371fb719b24048522f472c4762cbe9b8bb649f6d32b91c4c","href":"https://static.observableusercontent.com/files/5765720232b3edddeeed87df61f7087d7b8eda1e420ff4d1b2f28b0efefa4b11ad2c8a572f44cad6371fb719b24048522f472c4762cbe9b8bb649f6d32b91c4c","name":"1.png","type":"image/png","lastModified":1685047741799.377,"size":4203},{"id":"7dba368adc5452416f2b2501bd869cf90127b528a0adb2c7a13a896519931c1a45d206bf0b71b21550099290aadf86deff56d77a440b382b7496b814713c85c0","href":"https://static.observableusercontent.com/files/7dba368adc5452416f2b2501bd869cf90127b528a0adb2c7a13a896519931c1a45d206bf0b71b21550099290aadf86deff56d77a440b382b7496b814713c85c0","name":"2.png","type":"image/png","lastModified":1685047741810.689,"size":4215}] 30:{"id":"745370f7640d9ca1","slug":"making-sqlite-extension-gem-installable","title":"Making SQLite extension gem install'able for Ruby Developers","thumbnail":"fa4d7a7b9223a97326e5663fbde2845d8bbb774f773ff198e3c069c1aedbd043","access_level":"public","create_time":"$D2023-05-25T16:21:30.783Z","update_time":"$D2023-06-07T21:31:28.854Z","view_time":null,"first_public_time":"$D2023-06-08T15:30:08.259Z","has_unpublished_edits":null,"fork":false,"stars":0,"starred":false,"owner":{"type":"team","id":"512cbe7209990c30","login":"asg017","name":"Alex Garcia","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/fa4015f63c3a56af76b90247b0b0f8a98019b671f135157d746d3924eda27c07","tier":"starter_2024","bio":"Software engineer, available for freelance work! • he/him/his"},"version":139,"publish_version":null,"role":null,"authored":false,"authors":[{"type":"individual","id":"113fc3dc69e1f893","login":"asg017","name":"Alex Garcia","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/fa4015f63c3a56af76b90247b0b0f8a98019b671f135157d746d3924eda27c07","tier":null,"bio":"Software engineer, available for freelance work! • he/him/his"}],"members":[{"type":"individual","id":"113fc3dc69e1f893","login":"asg017","name":"Alex Garcia","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/fa4015f63c3a56af76b90247b0b0f8a98019b671f135157d746d3924eda27c07","tier":null,"role":"editor"}],"comments":[],"custom_thumbnail":true,"trashed":false,"lapsed":null,"subscribed":null,"forks":0,"collection":{"id":"ec34b19c7b7564c5","slug":"sqlite-blog","title":"SQLite Blog","owner":{"id":"512cbe7209990c30","login":"asg017","name":"Alex Garcia"}},"type":"notebook","body":{"titling":"auto","title":"Making SQLite extension gem install'able for Ruby Developers","cells":[{"id":0,"value":"# Making SQLite extension gem install'able for Ruby Developers","pinned":false,"hidden":false,"mode":"md","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"","database":"$undefined"},{"id":23,"value":"
