Active selection/ update

How can selection play a more active role? Instead of being totally random and had it varied by time, how may reader decide where to end and where to start? Should the decisions made by creator, reader or computer? How may the rules being updated by time? And how may the data be updated by time? Can update also means to always select a “better” one among two/ several? How may the judgement work?

The Recombination

If the decisions can partially be done/decide by the reader, what is the basic element/unit of variation? A whole paragraph? A section? A letter? What about punctuations? Instead of being merely randomly assigned by the computer or pre-decided by programmer, can they play a more active role?

Input v.s. Output

What else can we include as input parameter?(Location?Sound?Image?millis()? Contact Information? Colour?) And what else may be the possible outcome? Letter/ sentences represent as (weapon? Food? Seed? Nutrition)

Level of control/ force outside the system

While the basic function of API act as a bridge between one and another, software artists can also operate these data to perform a more active role. Instead of being merely a tool or connection, the work can be updated as the modes, information, or even the extraction are being shifted or played with. Besides, from optional reading: Ethan Ham's [*Randomness, Chance, & Art*](https://rednoise.org/readings/Art%20and%20the%20API-Thorpe.pdf) (didn’t finish all) and another article I found embed in the reading [*So You Want to Build a Generator*](https://galaxykate0.tumblr.com/post/139774965871/so-you-want-to-build-a-generator/) [*Inside the Artificial Universe That Creates Itself*](https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2016/02/artificial-universe-no-mans-sky/463308/)

The articles raised questions about options/randomness under conditions, which means to somehow take live inputs but also introduce randomness while processing the input. But how may we decide the accurate level of randomness? How can small variations generate new behaviour? That is, whenever a decision is made, how may it has a significance to the larger scale?

In the organic and infinite world/universe created from “No man’s Sky”, the concept of presence, absence and regeneration in the simulation process seems to respond to the question. When a character dies, it regenerates from the same location, but when the system is stopped, it can be restarted, or even shifted to another program.
