Under the hood, transitions then create _interpolators_ that calculate intermediate values between start and end points. When transition is called, D3 automatically schedules an animation that interpolates over the specified duration. In addition to the [\`duration()\`](https://github.com/d3/d3-transition#transition_duration) parameter, transitions support [\`delay()\`](https://github.com/d3/d3-transition#transition_delay) to set pauses before onset and [\`ease()\`](https://github.com/d3/d3-transition#transition_ease) to control pacing. The default \`ease\` function uses slow-in slow-out timing along a cubic curve: items start moving slowly, speed up through the middle of the transition, then slow down before stopping.
