It's because the `translateX/Y` is not a valid `transform` attribute value; see here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/SVG/Attribute/transform#Translate If you are used to using CSS-like syntax, you can use `selection.style('transform', ...)` to specify `translateX/Y` individually
