31:T698,md` The Trump Administration is largely letting each individual state manage its own response to the Corona Virus Pandemic. I was therefore interested in how the political party of a state's governor might affect the progression of the pandemic in that state. I searched for visualizations broken down by party of Governor but could not find any. So I created this Observable NoteBook. These visualizations break the population in two groups of people: people with a Democratic governor and people with a Republican governor. I am not claiming any correlation implies any causation in this data. Nor am I trying to promote any political views. So why break up the data this way? Two reasons: So dicussions of the politicalization of the virus responses can at least be based on real data (assuming States report accurate datas). Secondly to track longer term responses by state governments in our Federalist system. Note that this data has nothing to do with the party of any Covid-109 victum, only with the party of the State Governor. You can control several aspects of the data visualizations. After playing around with data for a while I have concluded that the virus does not really care which party governs a state. The virus is aided by higher population densities and population mixing. It was slowed in states that implemented social distancing mitigation efforts earlier. It remains to be seen whether the political party of a State's governor will affect the reopening pace and rules and whether this will have a long term effect on the progress of this pandemic in America. I realize that measuring population density on a state level is much too course a categorization provide much insight. Density at the county, or city, or even facility level would be very interesting to look at and would almost certainly correlate well with the spread of the virus. However, since this analysis is trying to compare the effects of Democratic versus Republican state government policies it is interesting to compare aveage population densities at the state level.
