Sahil's workflow made me think, if we could do this with a static PNG, maybe we could do this with map tiles? Andy already has an explainer [using Leaflet and translating RGB-terrain tiles to a hillshade layer](https://observablehq.com/@awoodruff/diy-hillshade), but I've been experimenting with the idea of blending satellite and hillshade layers in the browser, using Mapbox [satellite](https://www.mapbox.com/maps/satellite/) and [terrain-rgb](https://docs.mapbox.com/help/troubleshooting/access-elevation-data/#mapbox-terrain-rgb) data. This builds on a workflow for [making static maps using vector tile data](https://observablehq.com/@aboutaaron/mapbox-map-maker) that my colleague [Aaron Williams](https://observablehq.com/@aboutaaron) and I have been working on.
