how feasible would it be to make the hover work like a transform? in that it could extend a visual mark (like tickX, rect etc) so that we could modify the visual properties of the actual mark for highlighting?

My understanding is that we extend the underlying Class (Plot.Dot), but we can't reach it from an option or from the function (Plot.dot). However we could possibly do something like tooltip(Plot.Dot, …)?

the "first line is bold" thing feels pretty good most of the time but also maybe too opinionated. i guess i'd expect it take a function that returns an svg node? going in the other direction (less control), i sorta like the https://github.com/gka/d3-jetpack approach of just showing all the object props

I know both are at some stage of the experimental line...still ;-) I am trying to have a tooltip show a mini HTML like the Avinor cell in https://observablehq.com/@espinielli/ace-ansps Any suggestions more than welcome.
