It’s a simple but fun design. There are thirteen colors which means there are ${tex`13^{64}`} ways this artwork could have turned out. But we’re left with this specific iteration, and it’s now in the MoMA. What does that say? Orange, Lygia Pape, MoMA

From the above linked MoMA website, > At the time of its production in 1951, Colors for a Large Wall was the largest painting Kelly had ever made. It brings together four strategies fundamental to modernism: the additive composition of similar elements (each square is painted separately), the use of chance (each square is arranged randomly), the idea of the readymade (each color was taken from the French craft paper Kelly used to produce the collage on which the painting is based), and the allover grid of its composition. The result is a painting in which no aspect of its appearance has been determined by the artist’s personal choices. You can create your own version by pressing on the “Random” button below, or you can see the original pattern by clicking on the “Color for a Large Wall” button. `4c:T531,ellsworthColors = [ colorsMap.brown, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.lightPurple, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.orange, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.lightBlue, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.darkGreen, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.yellow, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.pink, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.darkBlue, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.orange, colorsMap.red, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.lightBlue, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.lightGreen, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.darkPurple, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.darkPurple, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.red, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.darkBlue, colorsMap.darkGreen, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.lightBlue, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.darkGreen, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.pink, colorsMap.lightGreen, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.lightPurple, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.darkPurple, colorsMap.yellow, colorsMap.white, colorsMap.black, colorsMap.pink, colorsMap.black ].map(color => genTile(color))4d:T4f8,html` `4e:[] 47:{"id":"154ad009860ad2fc","slug":"colors-for-a-large-wall-ellsworth-kelly","title":"Colors for a Large Wall, Ellsworth Kelly","thumbnail":"099804d1f58b8ba6ab55c8230d93e74ed2ece2a7f1d6a40e76de5e4e84e9b70a","access_level":"public","create_time":"$D2021-08-07T20:09:23.638Z","update_time":"$D2021-08-08T02:00:44.552Z","view_time":null,"first_public_time":"$D2021-08-08T01:40:39.198Z","has_unpublished_edits":null,"fork":false,"stars":0,"starred":false,"owner":{"type":"team","id":"a39c59fb53d879e2","login":"jmahabal","name":"Jay Mahabal","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/0cc5c59c8eb36b75abe4e5664d46572a7b626746fb8c9b54b054486ab9d50f7f","tier":"starter_2024","bio":"data viz enthusiast / bad-ass creative tech. currently ui @latticehr, prev @apple, @akqa, @ucberkeley.","following":false},"version":189,"publish_version":null,"role":null,"authored":false,"authors":[{"type":"individual","id":"4845ffd00a02d13b","login":"jmahabal","name":"Jay Mahabal","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/0cc5c59c8eb36b75abe4e5664d46572a7b626746fb8c9b54b054486ab9d50f7f","tier":null,"bio":"data viz enthusiast / bad-ass creative tech. currently ui @latticehr, prev @apple, @akqa, @ucberkeley.","following":false}],"members":[{"type":"individual","id":"4845ffd00a02d13b","login":"jmahabal","name":"Jay Mahabal","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/0cc5c59c8eb36b75abe4e5664d46572a7b626746fb8c9b54b054486ab9d50f7f","tier":null,"role":"editor"}],"comments":[],"custom_thumbnail":false,"trashed":false,"lapsed":null,"subscribed":null,"forks":0,"collection":{"id":"d8c09697433c087d","slug":"modern-art","title":"Modern Art","owner":{"id":"a39c59fb53d879e2","login":"jmahabal","name":"Jay Mahabal"}},"type":"notebook","body":{"titling":"auto","title":"Colors for a Large Wall, Ellsworth Kelly","cells":[{"id":0,"value":"$4b","pinned":false,"hidden":false,"mode":"ojs","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"$undefined","database":"$undefined"},{"id":54,"value":"viewof key = Inputs.button(\n [\n [\"Random\", () => new Date()],\n [\"Colors for a Large Wall\", () => 'ellsworth']\n ],\n { value: 'ellsworth', label: \"\" }\n)","pinned":false,"hidden":false,"mode":"ojs","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"$undefined","database":"$undefined"},{"id":27,"value":"genArt()","pinned":false,"hidden":false,"mode":"ojs","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"$undefined","database":"$undefined"},{"id":154,"value":"html`
