21:null 22:["$","title",null,{"children":"Windsor-Essex Walk Times to Food Banks Open During COVID-19 Outbreak | John Haldeman | Observable"}] 27:T777,md`In this visualization, every dot is an street intersection. Dot colour represents the walking time to the nearest food bank open during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The census tract's median income is represented by the blue coloured areas of the graph. Lighter coloured areas have lower median incomes. Lighter coloured dots represent shorter walking distaces to food banks. A mismatch may indicate a longer travel time for a poorer area. The list of Windsor food banks and whether they are currently open or closed was retrieved from Windsor Essex County Food Bank Association (WEFBA) website: http://wefba.ca/?p=210 Data was retrieved on April 18, 2020. An archived version of the site taken on that day can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20200418210935/http://wefba.ca/?p=210 The food bank list was later supplemented by Ontario 211 listings and from a flyer published by the Welcome Centre for women and families. Still later, a list of Essex County and Leamington food banks was provided by Katie Omstead (https://twitter.com/KatieOmstead). The West End Food Hub described by Mayor Dilkens in this tweet was included: https://twitter.com/drewdilkens/status/1250864093210251264. A full list of food banks in this visualization is located below the map. If you know of a food bank located withing Windsor that is open during COVID-19 but not included feel free to tweet me @JLHaldeman (https://twitter.com/JLHaldeman). Before you go to a food bank, call ahead to confirm they are still open and confirm hours and who they are currently providing services for. Also note that some food banks such as the Downtown Mission are providing delivery services during the pandemic. Special thanks to Doug Sartori (https://twitter.com/doug_sartori) for his suggestions on a possible source of information for Essex County interesections.
