Questions are selected at random from question/answer pairs you load. (Note that because the selection is truly random, the same question may come up twice in a row. The exercise will be more effective with a large number enough number of questions that that won't distract students.) Questions and answers can include markdown or html markup. If you want to include commas in your question or answer, use a vertical pipe |: it will be replaced with a comma in the web page. *Example data file*:

question,answer
Parse *interfectus est* (PNTMV)",third singular perfect indicative passive
Parse *ceterae sorōrēs* (GCN),feminine nominative plural
In the phrase *illo tempore Eumolpus vēnit ad Athēnās oppugnandās*| what case is *illo tempore* and why is it in that case?,ablative expressing *time when* something happened

(The example asks students to identify morphological properties of a given form of a verb). Students can set a timer for how long a randomly selected question should be displayed, and can start or pause the exercise at any time. This template requires two data files, one with questions and answers, and one configuring the radio buttons used in the quiz form. (See [the template notebook](https://observablehq.com/@l3/timed-identification-of-forms?collection=@l3/templates) for details.) *Example data files*: Question/answer file:

amo/amare/amavi/amatus,amet,present,subjunctive,active

amo/amare/amavi/amatus,amaretur,imperfect,subjunctive,passive

File configuring radio buttons:

mood,indicative|subjunctive

The basic process in each case is similar:\n\n1. somewhere on the internet, post a comma-delimited text file following the conventions explained in the notebook. (The default examples in the notebooks use github to make versioned files available on line.)\n2. clone the notebook, and fill in the URL(s) to your data file(s) in the appropriate cell(s).\n\nThat's the whole story. You can tidy up your cloned notebook and add your own introductory text, but as soon as you publish it, it's available to your students. \n\n(To learn more about Observable notebooks, start with the \"Welcome to Observable\" notebook that will be created for you when you first register as an Observable user.)\n\n`","pinned":false,"hidden":false,"mode":"ojs","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"$undefined","database":"$undefined"},{"id":10,"value":"md`## Some notebooks in this collection\n\n### Matching paired items\n\nCreate two-way quizzing of transformations between pairs of values, such as finite verbs from indicative<->subjunctive, nouns from singular<->plural, infinitives from active<->passive.\n\n*Example data file*:\n\n
