34:["$","title",null,{"children":"Coronavirus Deaths by Race / Ethnicity | Melvin Peralta | Observable"}] 3c:T42d,md`Data lasted updated on April 16, 2020. Data is based on a JHU report of states with data on COVID-19 related deaths by race/ethnicity: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/us-state-data-availability. Population data was gathered from https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/popest/2010s-state-detail.html. NYC population data was gathered from https://www.baruch.cuny.edu/nycdata/population-geography/pop-demography.htm. Coronavirus data was mostly gathered from the APM Research Lab: https://www.apmresearchlab.org/covid/deaths-by-race. Data was supplemented from various state sources on an as needed basis: Missouri (https://health.mo.gov/living/healthcondiseases/communicable/novel-coronavirus/results.php), DC (https://coronavirus.dc.gov/page/coronavirus-data), Minnesota (https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/situation.html), and NYC (https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/imm/covid-19-deaths-race-ethnicity-04162020-1.pdf). Two states were removed because race/ethnicity data was too limited (South Carolina and Arkansas).`3d:T7b9,chart = { const svg = d3.create("svg") .attr("viewBox", [0, 0, width, height]); let k = cases.length; for(let i = 0; i <= k-1; i++) { let index = populationData.findIndex(e => e.state == cases[i].state); // Population Data svg.append("g") .attr("transform", "translate(" + i%2*0.5*width + "," + Math.floor(i/2)*(1/Math.ceil(k/2))*height + ")") .selectAll("rect") .data(populationData[index].data) .join("rect") .attr("x", d => xScale(d[0])) .attr("y", padding) .attr("width", d => xScale(d[1]-d[0])) .attr("height", height/Math.ceil(k/2) - padding) .attr("fill", (d, i) => color[i]); svg.append("g") .attr("transform", "translate(" + i%2*0.5*width + "," + Math.floor(i/2)*(1/Math.ceil(k/2))*height + ")") .selectAll("text") .data(populationData[index].data) .join("text") .attr("x", 0) .attr("y", padding - 5) .attr("font-family", "sans-serif") .attr("font-size", "11px") .attr("fill", "black") .attr("text-achor", "middle") .text(populationData[index].state + " population") // Case Data svg.append("g") .attr("transform", "translate(" + i%2*0.5*width + "," + Math.floor(i/2)*(1/Math.ceil(k/2))*height + ")") .selectAll("rect") .data(cases[i].data) .join("rect") .attr("x", d => xScale(d[0]) + 0.25*width - 5) .attr("y", padding) .attr("width", d => xScale(d[1]-d[0])) .attr("height", height/Math.ceil(k/2) - padding) .attr("fill", (d, i) => color[i]); svg.append("g") .attr("transform", "translate(" + i%2*0.5*width + "," + Math.floor(i/2)*(1/Math.ceil(k/2))*height + ")") .selectAll("text") .data(populationData[i].data) .join("text") .attr("x", 0.25*width - 5) .attr("y", padding - 5) .attr("font-family", "sans-serif") .attr("font-size", "11px") .attr("fill", "black") .attr("text-achor", "middle") .text("COVID deaths") } return svg.node(); }3e:T4c8,populationData = { let tempArray = []; rawPopulationData.forEach((d,i) => { if( d["Year.display-label"] == "July 1, 2018" && d["Sex.id"] == "totsex" && d["Hisp.id"] == "nhisp" ) { let totpop = +rawPopulationData[i+1].totpop; tempArray.push({ state: d["GEO.display-label"], data: stack(level([ round(+d.wa/totpop*100, 2), round(+d.ba/totpop*100, 2), round(+rawPopulationData[i-1].totpop/totpop*100, 2), round((+d.aa + +d.na)/totpop*100, 2), /*round(+d.ia/totpop*100, 2),*/ round(100 - (round(+d.wa/totpop*100, 2) + round(+d.ba/totpop*100, 2) + /*round(+d.ia/totpop*100, 2) +*/ round((+d.aa + +d.na)/totpop*100, 2) + round(+rawPopulationData[i-1].totpop/totpop*100, 2)), 2)])) }) } }) let tot = [8537673, 2737163, 1899379, 2489089, 1247479, 164563]; tempArray.push({ state: "New York City", data: stack([ round(tot[1]/tot[0]*100, 2), round(tot[2]/tot[0]*100, 2), round(tot[3]/tot[0]*100, 2), round(tot[4]/tot[0]*100, 2), round(100 - (round(tot[1]/tot[0]*100, 2)+round(tot[2]/tot[0]*100, 2)+round(tot[3]/tot[0]*100, 2)+round(tot[4]/tot[0]*100, 2)),2) ]) }); return tempArray; }3f:T663,function swatches({ color, columns = null, format = x => x, swatchSize = 15, swatchWidth = swatchSize, swatchHeight = swatchSize, marginLeft = 0 }) { const id = DOM.uid().id; if (columns !== null) return html`
