Connection by a line indicates that those individuals appeared on the same panel in the seven years prior to the date shown. No difference is made between commenters, chairs, or panelists. When **Number of connections** is selected for "Node size", individuals are sized by the number of connections they have with others in the seven years prior to the year displayed. This is the initial default. When **Network influence** is selected, individuals are sized by a computed measure of how often they are on the shortest path between any two points in the rest of the network. This is a proxy for influence because a larger size with this measure suggests that that individual knows many people who wouldn't otherwise be connected.
