23:null 24:["$","title",null,{"children":"Plot Twist, May 2022 | Observable | Observable"}] 29:T1b17,# Plot Twist, May 2022 *Plot Twist* is the newsletter about [Observable Plot](https://observablehq.com/plot?utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail). Every month or so, we highlight the inspiring work being done in Observable Plot by creators from our growing user community. We also provide development updates, showcase new features, share examples and best practices. --- # #30DayChartChallenge completed [

](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0moP_tPioUw) The pickup of the #30DayChartChallenge on Observable was quite impressive. Kudos to [all of you who participated](https://observablehq.com/search?query=30daychartchallenge&utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail)! At the end of the challenge, we hosted a conversation between the participants, including Shruti Mukhtyar, Violeta Roizman, Tereza Iofciu and Priya Misner. You can view the meetup recording [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0moP_tPioUw). Check out the submissions! --- # Observable Plot's first anniversary! [

](https://observablehq.com/@observablehq/analyzing-star-wars-movies-the-first-anniversary-of-observ?utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail) Plot 0.1 was [announced on May 4, 2021](https://observablehq.com/@observablehq/introducing-observable-plot?utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=newsletter). A year later, we celebrated the positive feedback from the community, and the improvements that continue to make Observable Plot the go-to tool for quick data exploration in the browser. On that special occasion, the Observable team had fun creating a notebook about the Star Wars movies: Happy birthday, Plot! --- # Plot for public health [

](https://observablehq.com/@mcmcclur/reproductive-rights-and?utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail) Mark McClure, a professor of mathematics at the University of North Carolina Asheville and Observable Ambassador, explores in a visualization “how a respect for reproductive rights correlates with other health care indicators.” See Mark’s notebook. [

](https://observablehq.com/@marcusrussi/state-reclassifications-graphic?utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail) Marcus Russi, a research assistant at the Ted Cohen Lab at the Yale School of Public Health, makes an interesting (and fun!) usage of the Plot arrow mark to visualize change—the topic being how states fared in terms of reporting covid data. Marcus comments: “trying to visualize revisions to time series data is an interesting and often confusing exercise.” See Marcus’s notebook. --- # Because one challenge is not enough… [

](https://observablehq.com/@wiederkehra/how-fast-to-podium-scratchpad?utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail) Our own Anna Wiederkehr is competing in races and wants to have an idea of how fast she has to run to get onto a podium. How would you do that? By scraping race data, and showing them in Observable Plot! Run with Anna. --- # Data to practice with [

](https://observablehq.com/collection/@observablehq/datasets?utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail) Need some data to hone your Plot skills? Our new collection of [curated datasets](https://observablehq.com/collection/@observablehq/datasets?utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=plotpromo&utm_source=mail) was curated to be comprehensive and real, yet simple and friendly. Ideal for learning, teaching and web based demonstration of data analysis and visualization. Check out the curated datasets. --- # Plot 0.4.3 is out! [

](https://github.com/observablehq/plot/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md#043) The latest release of Plot includes several new features: a new tree mark, quantize scales, custom offsets for the stack transform, and helpers for creating custom transforms. Plus a handful of bug fixes. Immediately available in all your Observable notebooks, and on npm. Check the detailed release notes --- # Upcoming events & learning opportunities 📅 **Plot Happy Hour** Join us on **June 7th, 2pm PDT** for the next _Plot Happy Hour_ Ian Johnson, Anna Wiederkehr, and Paul Buffa will host a laid back hour of data visualization including prepared examples and Q&A. _You can view last month's happy hour recap [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bp899ZP9gY)._ Sign up for the meetup **🎧 Learn while listening** [Data Viz Today](https://dataviztoday.com) is Alli Torban’s podcast on all things dataviz.
