2e:null 2f:["$","title",null,{"children":"Vassar College WVKR HTML5 Stream Player | Ri | Observable"}] 34:T4ca,md`# Vassar College WVKR HTML5 Stream Player In its current state, [the web player for WVKR-FM](https://www.wvkr.org/) relies on an old Flash player that does not play in Safari and most modern browsers in 2020. I offer a fix for this here. ### Methods I extracted the callsign from the pop-up web page at [WVKR.org](https://wvkr.org), following a fabulous tutorial that reveals a [.pls](http://www.dudek.org/blog/253) url pattern. Opening the .pls file in VLC allows us to listen to the stream with our native player. Opening the .pls file with a text editor reveals a series of URLs— we are interested in the first one, ${streamURL}, which appears to be the main stream. The second URL under the key "File1" appears to be a fallback stream in case of outage on the first. After identifying our stream, we can load it into a native HTML5 audio player and enjoy the music. ### Getting current playing data: Unfortunately since streamtheworld does not support HTTPS for its RSS/XML feeds, we cannot fetch this data in our HTTPS Observable page normally.
