According to the Washington Post, energy standards save the American household an average of [$500 dollars](https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/01/24/home-appliance-myths-energy-saving-tips/) a year. Household use is only part of the equation, business use would be the other. But even with that added in electrical use appears to have peaked in the US in 2018, and was down by 3.7 percent by 2020, the latest data that was [available](https://www.eia.gov/state/seds/seds-data-complete.php?sid=US#StatisticsIndicators). And that's not even accounting for population growth. When that is factored in electrical use peaked in 2007 and has dropped by a little over 10 percent. By most measures in most states use has declined. I have charted each state's consumption, and used a [loess regression](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_regression) to smooth out the volatility and show the trend over time.
