To better understand how it works i coded some visualizations. Keep in mind that i am not an expert and that my code might be wrong or extremly unperformant. If you find mistakes or have suggestions just leave a comment. ### Inspiration A lot of the inspiration came from a [lecture](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fhHQgu2OcY) (in German) by [Prof. Dr. Edmund Weitz](http://weitz.de/) who put together an [awesome webpage](http://weitz.de/dct/) which was a huge source of inspiration for me and really helped me understand it. ## color transformation First you have to transform the RGB data into another color space. The space that is used often with jpeg is [YCbCr](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YCbCr#:~:text=YCbCr%2C%20Y%E2%80%B2CbCr%2C%20or,and%20red%2Ddifference%20chroma%20components.). Here Y is the luma component, Cb is the blue-difference and Cr is the red-difference chroma component. To illustrate this i used an awesome [example image](https://unsplash.com/photos/_NM6bXPqaCE) from unsplash (made by Geran de Klerk). We don't need all the frequencies to reconstruct an approximation to the original image.
