NPR: America's 200,000 COVID-19 Deaths: Small Cities and Towns Bear A Growing Share

What I like about these visualizations is the thoughtfulness for where the data is granular, and where aggregated. And, that they do both: granular time + aggregate time, granular geography + aggregate geography.

The first stacked bar chart has granural (weekly) time data. While grouping deaths into three categories of locations: big city, middle size, and small/rural. The animations in the later article shows geographic granularity with small multiples and within each map, while grouping the time periods into two chunks based on the data: first 100,000 and second 100,000. I also love that instead of choosing a specific data, it focussed on the deaths: first 100,000 and second 100,000 as the metric.

Tiny critique: I do wish that they'd removed the white spaces between the stacked bars.
