\n\n# Diverging color scatterplot\n\nThis plot of global average surface temperature ([GISTEMP](https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/)) uses a *diverging* *color* scale to indicate the deviation from the 1951–1980 average in degrees Celsius. Each measurement is drawn with a [dot](https://observablehq.com/plot/marks/dot), and a ramp [legend](https://observablehq.com/plot/features/legend) allows the reader to interpret the color—which in this case is redundant with its *y* position.","pinned":false,"hidden":false,"mode":"md","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"","database":"$undefined"},{"id":3,"value":"Plot.plot({\n y: {\n grid: true,\n tickFormat: \"+f\",\n label: \"↑ Surface temperature anomaly (°F)\"\n },\n color: {\n scheme: \"BuRd\",\n legend: true,\n className: 'large-font'\n },\n style: {\n fontSize: 16\n },\n marks: [\n Plot.ruleY([0]),\n Plot.dot(gistemp, {x: \"Date\", y: \"Anomaly\", stroke: \"Anomaly\"})\n ]\n})","pinned":true,"hidden":false,"mode":"ojs","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"$undefined","database":"$undefined"},{"id":43,"value":"","pinned":true,"hidden":false,"mode":"html","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"","database":"$undefined"},{"id":8,"value":"gistemp = FileAttachment(\"gistemp.csv\").csv({typed: true})","pinned":true,"hidden":false,"mode":"ojs","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"$undefined","database":"$undefined"}],"files":"$W31","stdlib":"1"}} 30:"$2f:body"
