Some are well known, others not so advertised. Even if from time to time a Reddit post asks for help to choose relevant packages for a project, word of mouth is not always enough to draw the attention to valuable work, after all one can only give advice on what one knows. From a more general perspective though, attention is often diverted from leads by shiny new concepts which may in time fade. Also, no matter how dedicated we are, it is just impossible to build a comprehensive state of the art picture, there are just too many moving parts which of course is a positive sign of energy and profusion. Taking a step back and taking time to ponder on what has been done may help discover gems that feed our peculiar needs or more simply give us a more accurate perspective. But how is this achieved when data is scattered between Hackage, GitHub, Darcs or on personal computers? The situation becomes even more challenging by the fact hand written documentation becomes obsolete at a very rapid pace. Building a dynamic outlook on the contribution of any programming language is a tremendous task which would require a dedicated team with an abundance of time and resources. Obviously, This page will not address this goal, rather it is a small step in that direction. I am eager to add more steps and I have scores of ideas to broaden the perspective. If you know how to compose \`\`mkALiving\`\` and \`\`mkMyWishes\`\` please reach me at \`\`@ jhderaigniac pm.me\`\` (\`\`@ ∷ Name → Domain → Email\`\`). As a sample, here are 2 facts which are worth considering. 1. Not long ago, an analysis described Haskell as a week-end language ([What Programming Languages Are Used Most on Weekends?](https://stackoverflow.blog/2017/02/07/what-programming-languages-weekends/?cb=1)). Questions posted on Stack Overflow on weekends were used as source data. It may be that people are doing some research during their weekends but packages are definitely released more often on weekdays, which looks more like a work flow than a hobby. Figures show an average of 13471.86 packages per day. Monday to Thursday are above, Friday to Sunday below. Number per day is decreasing steadily until Saturday and then bumping on Sunday: Haskellers are also releasing packages on the weekend, like in any other language used professionally. 2. Haskell is the hype nowadays and is gaining some traction. Unless there are some big projects worked out in some garage and "not yet unleashed on an unsuspecting world", 2018 should be a good year in terms of packages but not as great as 2015. Let's compare their figures: from January to July 7469 packages have been released. 2015 reached a peak with 14659 packages. From January to July we count 8932 packages, that is ${8932 - 7469} more than 2018. 2016 and 2017 were decreasing with 6936 and 6840 packages respectively for the same period so 2018 is already a better year with an increasing trend, but is unlikely to surpass 2015.
