Horapollo is a font which transforms the Latin alphabet into a set of glyphs tied to highly translatable concepts which we call "semantic universals" even though they are not literally universal concepts.

Each consonant in Horapollo represents a category from the Panlex Swadesh 100 list of concepts translatable into 2,000 languages. Each of the five vowels (plus y) represent a logical operator, starting with the booleans, existential and universal for {a, o, i, e, u} respectively, with a bonus "sublcass" operator for {y}.

Horapollo is meant to be a font which represents a language with very clear phonological rules. The language is unnamed but the working title is UCL for Universal Character Language (not University College London). The rules of the language are that every word must be CVC at minimum, and that new syllables must be of the from _VC appended to the word intitial syllable. Informally, every syllable must end with a consonant, every word must begin with a consonant in the word initial position, there can be no consonant clusters, there can be no double vowels, and there must be a vowel in every syllable.

This means that UCL can be parsed where the phonology of each word represents a synthetic set of concepts built with simple, underlying semantic rules. The order of precedence in UCL is left to right and is operator agnostic. This means that each new syllable modifies the preceding syllable as a new facet.

In addition, the concepts in UCL are based on PanLex Swadesh 110, which is composed of concepts which are loosely pairs of opposites. In UCL, opposing concepts correspond to voiced/unvoiced consonants. Each consonant pair is an unvoiced/voiced pair (while every sound in UCL comes purely from English phonology, the Roman characters do not always map to their English counterparts).

Finally, UCL also contains 3 degrees of abstraction relating to cosmic entities, living beings, and human body parts. These levels of reality correspond roughly to the sonority hierarchy, with the most vowel like consonants representing the most abstract concepts, and the most consonant like concepts representing the most concrete. It remains to produce a concrete set of rules to generate this phonosemantic hierachy from a set of logical axioms.2f:Tca9,
