These world maps reflect the total COVID-19 cases and deaths respectively from World Health Organization data. The sliders animate the maps by updating the countries with their case and death counts every three weeks, reflected by the color value. Additionally, the user can interact with the slider and pause it or manually drag it to the date they wish to view. Hovering over the maps after pausing the sliders allows viewers to clearly see cumulative case and death counts of countries. This is helpful for users to see instead of only viewing color values from the legend, as total counts may vary greatly, even within the same color range, due to large variability in cases and deaths amongst countries and population counts. This is crucial to our story, as there are some countries that had significantly more or less cases and deaths than other countries. The comparable metric is supported through the base year of 2015 where the percentage growth indicates the increase or decrease of different housing trends compared to the housing trends in 2015. For example, if in 2017 the annual change for Real Housing Cost is 9%, it means the Real Housing Cost in 2017 increased about 9% since 2015. Similarly for Italy in 2019, if the annual change for Real Housing Cost is -4%, it means the the Real Housing Cost in 2019 decreased about 4% since 2015 in Italy. Real Housing Cost: Indicates the annual percentage growth in prices of the houses adjusted by the inflation. Rent Cost: Indicates the annual percentage growth in prices of renting places.
