If you read the background color as the possible distribution of species in the different regions, you begin to get a feel for what each interpolation method does. In this case the _random-walk_ method is clearly the best: where there are enough samples of the same color, the interpolated color is almost solid. In other words, we can be pretty sure that a new iris whose measurements are in the ${iriscolor("versicolor")} region would indeed be versicolor. Where there is more doubt—either because we’re in a region that has both ${iriscolor("versicolor")} and ${iriscolor("virginica")}, or because we’re far from any existing sample—there is more noise.
