TBD links to 'How-To' guides, if applicable. Need to start this conversation with Alliance team to find out more details, but Todd brought this concept up in an early conversation about this notebook.
Delete 'across 4.8k studies'. Practices are included in multiple studies so there is double counting when summing.
We should have total number in text above and will edit in.
Do we need to define observation somewhere? Should we have a glossary or something in appendix
Thanks, we'll remove the studies and add the observation count to the summary description above. If Alliance can bake in a quick definition of observations into the narrative, that would be great. Otherwise, this definition/information can be added to the M&S below, when that is written.
Some things to consider.
- When a crop is chosen with few practices, the graph creates a lot of white space due to fewer categories on the y axis. Could it be collapsed to the same spacing as the default to maintain the overall look, eventhough the cell would be smaller?
- The x axis scale shifts a lot when changing crops due to differences in weight. The range is probably too large to keep scale fixed...Not sure this is an issue just something i noticed.
We would like to create a few dynamic insights to match What's at Risk? we can send through in the format of the evolved spec sheet to see if possible.
On the mouse over
1. Could round the number to max 2 decimal places, and we might consider 1 even
2. Can you include a mean control yield and/or a percentage change. this give people an indicatioin if this is a big change or a little change. that could also be an alternaive way to color the bubbles (relative to itself, instead of relative to other practices)
Thanks Todd. We'll update the white space in the chart as you subset the data by crop, round the tooltip values to 2 decimal places (we can continue to round to 1 after you take a look), and we'll propose a few insights that we can do based on the charts.
Including mean control yield/percentage change/recoloring the dots on hover is too complex at this point, but we'll record them to think about for future phases. Same with the practice definitions—we'd need these definitions and the mapping, and would want to think about if this info is better in a on hover or some other type of "?" icon or expand/collapse section that contains definitions across the notebook.
Maybe in the meantime, we can add the definition in the M&S. All the definitions are in the back the scientific article on ERA and we could quickly pull them out.
One day, i'm interested to think about if might have a toggle for similar crops. while there are gaps in the data, in many cases we might have data from other crops where we think the practice should behave similarly. It woudl be some information that people could use even though it does not account for the specific crop of interest.
Thanks, interesting idea and we are recording this for phase 2 or another future phase. Would want to discuss further and explore the data that would relate crops to each other.
