The boundary data can be found in simplified, visualization ready format within the [notebook template](https://observablehq.com/d/41ca4f33b9a5a2ff). ### Administrative Boundaries The Administrative boundaries in the Adaptation Atlas are based on [GAUL 2024](https://data.apps.fao.org/catalog/dataset/60b23906-f21a-49ef-8424-f3645e70264e). This data comes in 3 levels: - Admin 0: Country boundaries - Admin 1: Sub-national boundaries at the first level (often provinces, departments, or states). - Admin 2: Second level sub-national boundaries (districts, municipalities, or equivalent). We provide two main versions: 1. **Analysis-Ready Boundaries** – These handle disputed territories by assigning the disputed area to each country that claims it. This creates overlapping polygons but ensures that countries are represented as they see themselves. Use this version for any **analysis tasks** (e.g., raster extractions, spatial statistics). 2. **Simplified Boundaries** – A much lower-resolution version designed for **visualization purposes** with a much smaller file size. ### Watershed Boundaries The Adaptation Atlas uses watershed boundaries based on the [WMO Basins and Sub-Basins (WMOBB) dataset](https://grdc.bafg.de/products/basin_layers/wmo_basins/). This dataset also comes in two versions as well - one for analysis and one for visualization. It only contains one level of watersheds.48:T65f,atlas_stylesheet = html``49:T4cf,function tocOneliner({ selector = "h1", // selectors to include (can comma-separate, like "h1,h2,h3") heading = "In this notebook", // heading for ToC delim = ' | ', // delimiter between links skip = [], // text content for headers to exclude } = {}) { // return a one-liner table of contents // allow for skips // modified from https://observablehq.com/@mbostock/toc return Generators.observe(notify => { let headings = []; function observed() { let h = Array.from(document.querySelectorAll(selector)); h = h.filter((d) => !skip.includes(d.textContent)) if (h.length !== headings.length || h.some((h, i) => headings[i] !== h)) { notify(html`${heading}
${Array.from(headings = h, (h, i) => { const end = i === headings.length - 1 return Object.assign( html`${DOM.text(h.textContent)}${end ? '' : delim}`, {onclick: e => (e.preventDefault(), h.scrollIntoView())} ); })}`); } } const observer = new MutationObserver(observed); observer.observe(document.body, {childList: true, subtree: true}); observed(); return () => observer.disconnect(); }); }4a:T4a3,# Export Notebooks to HTML with Notebook Kit The new [Observable Notebook Kit](https://observablehq.com/notebook-kit/kit) module allows for Observable Notebooks to be converted to a standalone HTML file for submission. Notebooks could also be developed using Notebook Kit and Observable Notebooks V2 if preferred. To convert an Observable Notebook, such as this one, to a static html: 1. Have Node, Deno, or Bun a similar JavaScript runtime installed on your local device. This has been tested with Bun 1.2, Deno 2.2, and Node.js 24. 3. Install the Notebook Kit tool ```sh npm add @observablehq/notebook-kit # or deno add npm:@observablehq/notebook-kit@latest # or bun install @observablehq/notebook-kit@latest ``` 4. Run the CLI notebook-kit download command and write the output to a file. ```sh notebook-kit download \ "https://observablehq.com/d/8a953dc1cde63a86" \ > notebook.html # or deno run --allow-net \ npm:@observablehq/notebook-kit download \ 'https://observablehq.com/d/8a953dc1cde63a86' \ > notebook.html # or bunx notebooks download \ 'https://observablehq.com/d/8a953dc1cde63a86' \ > notebook.html ```4b:[] 45:{"id":"89dd00595674005d","slug":null,"title":"Atlas Hackathon Developer Guide","thumbnail":"be82fa2f8c7a5b2d7ae7486d539a2000f434abc0d89712352154b62cd9f8f2c0","access_level":"public","create_time":"$D2026-05-25T08:22:53.141Z","update_time":"$D2026-05-25T08:22:53.141Z","view_time":null,"first_public_time":"$D2026-05-25T08:22:53.141Z","has_unpublished_edits":null,"fork":true,"stars":0,"starred":false,"owner":{"type":"team","id":"618fbbadf8b5decd","login":"atlas18","name":"ATLAS","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/f721bc37f182a1cf7eb5cde805076adad170314ff6ef7c99e861df2da7f05b1b","tier":"starter_2024","bio":"","following":false},"version":252,"publish_version":null,"role":null,"authored":false,"authors":[{"type":"individual","id":"aa50382be7a24723","login":"mulugeta-molla","name":"Mulugeta Molla","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/e265fa5f18a8cbc2a517605ff33c82cc6a97df97d32db2833ded25a3443f7eb7","tier":null,"bio":"","following":false}],"members":[{"type":"team","id":"618fbbadf8b5decd","login":"atlas18","name":"ATLAS","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/f721bc37f182a1cf7eb5cde805076adad170314ff6ef7c99e861df2da7f05b1b","tier":"starter_2024","role":"editor"},{"type":"individual","id":"aa50382be7a24723","login":"mulugeta-molla","name":"Mulugeta Molla","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/e265fa5f18a8cbc2a517605ff33c82cc6a97df97d32db2833ded25a3443f7eb7","tier":null,"role":"editor"}],"comments":[],"custom_thumbnail":false,"trashed":false,"lapsed":null,"subscribed":null,"forks":0,"collection":null,"type":"notebook","body":{"titling":"auto","title":"Atlas Hackathon Developer Guide","cells":[{"id":207,"value":"
