While some amount of data preparation can be done in other progrms (R, Python), some data manipulation can (and should!) happen in JavaScript. And, it isn't even that bad, I promise. This tutorial is written for people with _some_ JavaScript familiarity. If you need more of the basics, you can see my free [web development coursebook](https://info340.github.io/). For a more in depth tutorial, see [this notebook series](https://observablehq.com/@dakoop/learn-js-data) that is based on the wonderful site [learnjsdata](http://learnjsdata.com/). ### Table of Contents - [Loading data](#loading_data) - [Accessing Data](#accessing_data) - [Summarizing Data](#summarizing_data) - [Working with Dates](#date_data) - [Filtering Data](#filtering_data) - [Aggregating Data](#aggregating_data) - [Sorting Data](#sorting_data) - [Appendix](#appendix) Feel free to read through this tutorial, fork the [starter code](https://observablehq.com/@info474/javascript-data-wrangling-blank), or watch the video walkthroughs below! `48:[{"id":"70a3445122e7911d4ff1e0aaa918594caa7d1c82b6537035445ab146bd3108e4289996dcb246f540d248f5245e908c8f0fe643add3916f0c5c45ccfa3dc39790","href":"https://static.observableusercontent.com/files/70a3445122e7911d4ff1e0aaa918594caa7d1c82b6537035445ab146bd3108e4289996dcb246f540d248f5245e908c8f0fe643add3916f0c5c45ccfa3dc39790","name":"json_diagram@1.png","type":"image/png","lastModified":1668211587429.752,"size":1209515}] 45:{"id":"9e71735d6ef6007a","slug":null,"title":"JavaScript Data Wrangling (Demo tutorials)","thumbnail":"3e679166d95288b91c97751c9a71896745f555f324c97e1bf6756a46e22750e7","access_level":"public","create_time":"$D2022-11-12T00:06:27.429Z","update_time":"$D2022-11-12T00:08:36.822Z","view_time":null,"first_public_time":"$D2022-11-12T00:06:27.429Z","has_unpublished_edits":null,"fork":{"id":"f37a42a3ad969a36","slug":"javascript-data-wrangling","title":"JavaScript Data Wrangling","owner":{"id":"d534f9cbd78a5d1b","login":"info474","name":"Spring 2020 Info Vis"}},"stars":0,"starred":false,"owner":{"type":"team","id":"ba7585cf541c1c1d","login":"birusod","name":"Oumar Diallo","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/d3c72f8a0d82d1670fbb0efdff4426a7d4ada7bdb0211f0822034de728bc59ed","tier":"starter_2024","bio":"","following":false},"version":623,"publish_version":null,"role":null,"authored":false,"authors":[{"type":"individual","id":"e326195caf30e290","login":"birusod","name":"Oumar Diallo","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/d3c72f8a0d82d1670fbb0efdff4426a7d4ada7bdb0211f0822034de728bc59ed","tier":null,"bio":"","following":false}],"members":[{"type":"individual","id":"e326195caf30e290","login":"birusod","name":"Oumar Diallo","avatar_url":"https://avatars-next.observableusercontent.com/d3c72f8a0d82d1670fbb0efdff4426a7d4ada7bdb0211f0822034de728bc59ed","tier":null,"role":"editor"}],"comments":[],"custom_thumbnail":false,"trashed":false,"lapsed":null,"subscribed":null,"forks":1,"collection":null,"type":"notebook","body":{"titling":"auto","title":"JavaScript Data Wrangling (Demo tutorials)","cells":[{"id":0,"value":"md`# JavaScript Data Wrangling (Demo tutorials)\n_Everything you never wanted to know about working with data in JavaScript..._`","pinned":false,"hidden":false,"mode":"ojs","author":"$undefined","summary":"$undefined","tool":"$undefined","providerMetadata":"$undefined","attachments":"$undefined","output":"$undefined","database":"$undefined"},{"id":618,"value":"displayCaution(\n html`
