In May 2021, for example, a police operation against drug traffickers in the Jacarezinho community in Rio de Janeiro city resulted in 29 reported fatalities. Other example is that in 2018, for the first time after the military dictatorship in Brazil, ex-president Michel Temer signed a decree that allowed federal intervention in the state of Rio de Janeiro, taking the security policy out of the state control and placing it in the hands of a military general. As communities across the nation seek to understand, address, and ultimately reduce the incidence of gun-related incidents, the role of data visualization emerges as a powerful tool in shedding light on this multifaceted challenge. The goal of visualizing data on gun violence is to transform raw statistics into meaningful insights, ultimately providing a comprehensive and accessible understanding of the patterns, trends, and underlying factors associated with these incidents. In this exploration of visualizing gun violence data in the Brazil, we want to understand the intricate layers of this societal challenge. By harnessing the power of visualization, we aim to empower individuals with the knowledge needed to catalyze meaningful action, promote public discourse, and contribute to the collective endeavor of fostering safer communities for all.4a:T42c,"Fogo Cruzado" is a dataset that tracks incidents of gunfire and armed violence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Developed by the Brazilian non-governmental organization (NGO) Instituto Igarapé, "Fogo Cruzado," which translates to "Crossfire" in English, aims to provide real-time and comprehensive information about shootings and armed confrontations in the city. Key features of the "Fogo Cruzado" dataset typically include: 1) **Geographical Information:** Details on the location of each incident, including neighborhood and possibly street-level information, allowing for spatial analysis and mapping. 2) **Temporal Information:** Time and date stamps for each reported incident, enabling the analysis of trends, patterns, and fluctuations over time. 3) **Incident Characteristics:** Information about the nature of the incidents, such as whether they involve drug-related activities, gang conflicts, or other factors contributing to gun violence. 4) **Casualty Data:** Details on casualties, including injuries and fatalities resulting from each incident. 4b:T11b4,chart = { const width = 1200; const height = 600; const marginTop = 20; const marginRight = 20; const marginBottom = 30; const marginLeft = 30; // Create the positional scales. const x = d3.scaleTime([new Date(years_range[0],0, 0), new Date(years_range[1],0, 0)],[marginLeft, width - marginRight]); let maximum = d3.max(fc_grouped_by_month, d=>d.value); if(grouped_by === "Day"){ maximum = d3.max(fc_grouped_by_day, d=>d.value); }else if(grouped_by === "Year"){ maximum = d3.max(fc_grouped_by_year, d=>d.value); } const y = d3.scaleLinear() .domain([0, maximum]).nice() .range([height - marginBottom, marginTop]); // Create the SVG container. const svg = d3.create("svg") .attr("width", width) .attr("height", height) .attr("viewBox", [0, 0, width, height]) .attr("style", "max-width: 100%; height: auto; overflow: visible; font: 10px sans-serif;"); function filter_by_label_and_date() { if(grouped_by === "Month"){ var aux = fc_grouped_by_month.filter(function (row) { if (row.date >= new Date(years_range[0], 0, 0) && row.date <= new Date(years_range[1], 0, 0)){ return true; }else { return false; } }); } else if(grouped_by === "Day"){ var aux = fc_grouped_by_day.filter(function (row) { if (row.date >= new Date(years_range[0], 0, 0) && row.date <= new Date(years_range[1], 0, 0)){ return true; }else { return false; } }); } else{ var aux = fc_grouped_by_year.filter(function (row) { if (row.date >= new Date(years_range[0], 0, 0) && row.date <= new Date(years_range[1], 0, 0)){ return true; }else { return false; } }); } return aux.filter(d=>labels.includes(d.label)); } // Add the horizontal axis. svg.append("g") .attr("transform", `translate(0,${height - marginBottom})`) .call(d3.axisBottom(x)) // Add the vertical axis. svg.append("g") .attr("transform", `translate(${marginLeft},0)`) .call(d3.axisLeft(y)) .call(g => g.select(".domain").remove()) .call(g => g.append("text") .attr("x", -marginLeft) .attr("y", 10) .attr("fill", "currentColor") .attr("text-anchor", "start") .text("")); // Compute the points in pixel space as [x, y, z, k], where z is the name of the series and k is the difference. var current_data = filter_by_label_and_date(); const points = current_data.map((d) => [x(d.date), y(d.value), d.label]); // Group the points by series. const groups = d3.rollup(points, v => Object.assign(v, {z: v[0][2]}), d => d[2]); console.log(Array.from(groups.values())) // Draw the lines. const line = d3.line(); const path = svg.append("g") .attr("fill", "none") .attr("stroke", "red") .attr("stroke-width", 1.5) .attr("stroke-linejoin", "round") .attr("stroke-linecap", "round") .selectAll("path") .data(groups.values()) .join("path") .style("mix-blend-mode", "multiply") .attr("d", line) .attr("stroke", d=>map_colors.get(d.z)); console.log(map_colors.get("Incidents")) // Add an invisible layer for the interactive tip. const dot = svg.append("g") .attr("display", "none"); dot.append("circle") .attr("r", 2.5); dot.append("text") .attr("text-anchor", "middle") .attr("y", -8); svg .on("pointerenter", pointerentered) .on("pointermove", pointermoved) .on("pointerleave", pointerleft) .on("touchstart", event => event.preventDefault()); return svg.node(); function pointermoved(event) { const [xm, ym] = d3.pointer(event); const i = d3.leastIndex(points, ([x, y]) => Math.hypot(x - xm, y - ym)); const [x, y, k1, k2] = points[i]; path.style("stroke", ({z}) => z === k1 ?
