This notebook uses spherical surface area (d3.geoArea to compute spherical excess, then multiplying by the mean volumetric radius of the Earth 6,371 km, squared). Actually, these maps have errors. Russia temporally occupies Crimea, Ukraine here without Crimea. You use sources infected with russian propoganda.
