30:["$","title",null,{"children":"Announcing the Women’s History Month DataViz Contest Winners | Observable | Observable"}] 35:T566,md ` This March, we [invited](https://observablehq.com/@observablehq/womens-history-month-dataviz-contest) the Observable community to celebrate _**International Women's Day**_ and _**Women's History Month**_ by participating in a data visualization contest focused on exploring & celebrating women's rights & milestones through history. We asked members of the Observable community to submit a notebook that does any of the following: - provides insight into some aspect of women's history (e.g. legal rights, health data, historical achievements, etc.) - uses data to advocate for women's rights or gender equality, and/or - is directly inspired by the work of woman data practitioners The Observable team selected 5 notebooks from the submissions we received, choosing those which we felt used data visualization in interesting, thorough, & creative ways to provide insights into women's historical struggles & achievements. Each of the 5 winning authors is rewarded with a $100 USD prize package including: - A copy of [Data Sketches](https://www.datasketch.es/) by [Nadieh Bremer](https://observablehq.com/@nbremer) & [Shirley Wu](https://observablehq.com/@sxywu) ($50 value) - A $50 gift card - Optional 1:1 mentorship sessions (2x 30 minutes) from members of the Observable team on topics of their choice (e.g. engineering, dataviz, leadership, career paths, etc.). `36:T6b1, md`## We're not stopping here We are extremely grateful to everyone who entered the contest, and to our 5 winning authors, for using data and visualization to teach & inspire the community as we all work towards an equitable future informed by understanding of the past. We've learned so much from all the participants who highlighted data on this subject through their creative entries. Women's History Month may be over, but all year round Observable is committed to ending systemic gender inequality, to supporting intersectional, trans-inclusive feminism, and to prioritizing marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort.
