Learned D3 at Businessweek, started using Observable to do my job at Kensho, took time off to write notebooks about Mayans and Galton, moved to San Francisco to work for Observable. Now work for it remotely from the Berkshires where my wife runs Avaloch.
Thanks! This is a nice explanation. I like this pattern for creating small charts that don't conform to faceting. One downside is that I lose the ability to download as svg or png, which is handy for my work. Do you have any ideas for a pattern that would preserve this? My initial thought is wrap the individual svgs in a big svg, and use transform/translate to put in a line or a grid. But it seems like this might corrupt the svg document structure.
SVG-in-SVG is legit! Added an example below. But really I feel like we gotta eventually make "Download PNG" etc. work for every cell, it's such a killer feature…
This is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't realize you could nest svgs like that. Thanks! Making "Download PNG" work for every cell would be awesome, but I imagine pretty tricky.
