I'm a bit confused about the order of transition() and call(), i.e.
gx.transition(t).call(...)
bar.data(...).call(bar => bar.transition(t).attr(...))
Is there a good way to easily explain it? Thank you!

This is an awesome example explaining how data joins work. However, the use of `update` as the function name led to some confusion with the `update` selection. An alternate name like `redraw` could alleviate this problem. Thanks for the example.

Why is necessary to put the transition code within a `call` function?

Because we want the return value of the entire expression to evaluate to a selection, not a transition.

Did anyone who implemented the code for joining by index be willing to share it?
