This feels "magical", since it's not immediately obvious that a 2-character string is going to be read as an array of two characters. I like it though, but it may be useful to comment on?

There’s already an example of using a string as an iterable above (gene) so I think here it would be better to switch to pairs of names. Thanks for the feedback.
